About Tarma Designs

Started in 2005, the founder, Sky George, is an avid cyclist, hiker, runner and outdoor enthusiast who loves to travel. He grew up in Georgia and spent many years with CamelBak hydration systems in product management and marketing before starting Tarma. Sky has served on the Outdoor Industry Association and Pacific Crest Trail Association boards. Sky loves to be outdoors. Hiking, biking & running are his favorites. His design style is simple with utility and function. Something you can wear everyday and enjoy for years.

Tarma's offices are located in beautiful Chico, CA. The city is a cultural, economic, and educational center of the northern Sacramento Valley and home to both California State University, Chico and Bidwell Park, the country's 26th largest municipal park and the 13th largest municipally-owned park. We design all of our pieces and make many of them here.

Tarma Designs was named after a small Peruvian town high in the Andes between Lima and the headwater of the Amazon – an out of the way crossroads for goods and travelers along the path of the ancient Incan trail to Machu Picchu. An out-of-the way place that's simple, everyday and beautiful.

The Tarma logo of stacked stones is called a cairn (pronounced like the name Karen) and represents a trail cairn or marker that guides you through uncertain areas. To some, it represents the balance and path of life. To others, the stacked rocks look like steps on a path. We think it is a little of all those and more.
