Tarma Designs was founded in 2005 by Sky George. Sky is an avid cyclist, hiker, runner, and outdoor enthusiast who loves to travel. He grew up in Georgia and spent many years working at CamelBak hydration systems in product management and marketing before starting Tarma. Sky has served on the Outdoor Industry Association and Pacific Crest Trail Association boards, directly utilizing his passion for the outdoors. Much like what you see in nature, his design style is simple, combining beauty with utility and function. Sky’s mission was to create something that could be worn every day and enjoyed for years to come. So began Tarma Designs!
Tarma was named after a small Peruvian town high in the Andes, located between Lima and the headwater of the Amazon. Also known as the Pearl of the Andes, this crossroads for goods and travelers along the path of the ancient Incan trail to Machu Picchu provides effortless tranquility and beauty to those who reside there. Much like its namesake, Tarma Designs are simple, practical and notably pleasing to the eye.
The Cairn Logo
Tarma’s logo of stacked stones is called a cairn (pronounced like the name Karen). It represents a trail cairn or marker that guides you through uncertain areas along the journey. To some, it represents the balance and path of life. To others, the stacked rocks look like steps on a path. We think it is a little of both of those ⎼ and more!
In December of 2016, Tarma moved from Penngrove, CA about 3 hours East of Butte County. The current owners of the company, Brian Curtis and Michael Coogan, met Sky 13 years ago when he reached out for their expertise in creating a website. They designed and developed every rendition of the site; as well as marketing materials, trade shows and were involved in any significant arch of the brand’s growth. Both had always expressed interest in someday purchasing Tarma, so when the time came for Sky to focus on new ventures, the decision was simple.
Tarma's office is located in charming Chico, CA. The city is a cultural, economic and educational hub of the Northern Sacramento Valley. We are home to both California State University, Chico and Bidwell Park ⎼ the United State’s 26th largest municipally owned park. The city is a great starting point for many outdoor adventures that Tarma represents; such as running, hiking and mountain biking! All of our pieces are designed in-house and many of them are also made here.
Our jewelry company has seen significant growth in customer loyalty and notoriety since its origin. We believe Tarma will continue to expand as we develop more designs in more segments. This is a great product to customize for an event; whether it be running or skiing. That ability in custom jewelry is rare and we’d love to expand in that area! On the horizon ⎼ new designs are in the works and there will likely be a long term vision of entering into the lifestyle segment. We can’t wait to have you Journey With Us!
